Hello, my name is Grace McKernan and I’m a college freshman learning about the true benefits of simply being a good person towards others.

In this blog, I hope to share a valuable learning experience with others through stories from my semester-long service project. Today’s consumer society and mass media teach people that they don’t need qualities such as kindness, compassion, or generosity to be happy in life; Instead, they teach that we all need to buy more, consume more, and think less. Rather than going out of our way to help others. many people these days seem to go out of their way to avoid others and make themselves look “better than” or “too good for” those around them and this behavior needs to change for the sake of our world and the 7 billion people living on it.

Even if my posts can change just one person’s mind or inspire someone to do a service/kindness project of their own, I will know my small acts of kindness made a difference in someone’s life.

I hope you enjoy my story, and, of course, feedback is always welcome!
